Barton c. The Procter & Gamble Company
Update Status: This is the most active and "lead" case of the cluster. After U.S. District Judge Gonzalo Curiel cleared the consumer protection claims to move forward into discovery, P&G attempted to slow it down by moving to transfer the venue out of California. However, on December 11, 2025, the court denied P&G’s motion to transfer. Since then, active document filings and discovery exchanges have been continuously logged on the federal docket, with the most recent entries recorded on June 16, 2026
New Prop 65 notices allege reproductive toxicity from lead and cadmium in menstrual products
California Prop 65 Notices
Active as of April 2026. California's Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act notices allege that specified Tampax products expose consumers to lead and cadmium at levels above Prop 65 thresholds.
Lead levels up to 400× higher than competitors found in Tampax Pearl products
Otkina v. Procter & Gamble
Filed January 2026. Independent testing alleged to have found lead concentrations in Tampax Pearl up to 400 times higher than competing brands. P&G has not yet formally responded to the complaint.
P&G accused of failing to disclose neurotoxin risks on Tampax packaging
Sanchez v. Procter & Gamble
Filed November 2025. Focuses on P&G's alleged failure to warn consumers about the presence of lead and cadmium — known neurotoxins — on product labels and packaging.
Federal judge rejects P&G motion to dismiss — case moves forward to discovery
Barton v. Procter & Gamble
A federal judge rejected P&G's motion to dismiss in late 2025, allowing plaintiffs to proceed with discovery. This is a significant procedural win for plaintiffs and sets the stage for class certification.
PFAS case dismissed with prejudice — judge rules plaintiffs' testing methodology was flawed
PFAS 'Pure Cotton' Case
Dismissed July 1, 2025. The court entered final judgment in favor of P&G after finding that plaintiffs did not establish the reliability of their testing. This does NOT affect the newer, separate lead contamination cases.
